This is the Republic of Vietnam campaign medal established by the Republic of Vietnam May 12, 1964. It was awarded to the members of the U. S. armed forces beginning on June 20, 1966. Personnel must meet one of the following criteria to receive this medal:
Service in the Republic of Vietnam for six months between 1 March 1961 and 28 March 1973.
Service outside the Republic of Vietnam in direct combat support of the Republic and its Armed Forces for a six month period. In addition, such individuals must qualify for the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal or the Vietnam Service Medal.
If having served less than six months, have been wounded, captured (but later escaped, rescued or released) or killed in action by enemy forces.
Special eligibility is extended to personnel assigned to the Republic of Vietnam on 28 January 1973 if they served 60 days as of that date or a minimum of 60 days to 28 March 1973.
