    The medal is used and is in good condition with limited signs of wear or age, and the ribbon is clean a crisp. US Border Patrol Exceptional Service Medal was established on
    August 8, 2002, and
    was to be awarded to Border Patrol personnel for service and/or
    accomplishment above and
    beyond
    that which is normally expected. The medal was discontinued in 2003 when the Border Patrol was moved from the Justice Department (Immigration and Naturalization Service) in 2003 to the Department of Homeland Security in the wake of the Sept 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
