Condition: As is typical with many of the antique Chinese pieces, where applicable some of the hardware may have been replaced. There is general wear, and may be some shrinkage and age cracks that is typical for a piece this old, especially considering the climate difference. We feel these flaws add to the character of the piece and are preferable to replacement during restoration, Sometimes it is necessary to repair or replace certain components of the furniture, but that is typically done with antique wood. We try to be as clear as possible in the photos attached, however we are limited in the number of photos we can include, so it may not be possible to show every detail. Antique Chinese Red Wedding Cabinet, 48″ Wide x 84″ Tall
This tall Antique Chinese armoire cabinet would be the focal point of any room. You are immediately drawn to it’s large size and the beautiful relief carvings on the doors. The tapered lines make this antique Chinese wardrobe cabinet appear less massive.
General Construction:
The front of the cabinet is filled mostly with 2 large doors. Each door is divided in to 4 flat panels. The second panel down from the top has a round relief carving of a flower vase and other common objects. Above and below these panels are much smaller panels with nice relief carved designs. The large bottom panels have detailed relief carvings of flowers and leaves. All of the carvings and borders are finished in a darker color with some painted gilded accents. The background of the carved sections are finished in a slightly lighter shade of red lacquer than the rest of the doors.
There is a vertical support between the doors that allows them to be secured. You can easily remove this support to have full access to the interior of the cabinet. Inside the antique wardrobe cabinet is a shelf with pair of fixed drawers below. There is also another shelf near the top of the cabinet.
Below the antique wedding cabinet doors is a flat apron which adds approx. 10″ of storage height inside the cabinet.
One of the unusual features of this antique Chinese red wedding cabinet is the large rounded corner posts that are set at angles on the front and sides. This makes the cabinet taper inward so it is slightly narrower near the top when viewed from the front or the sides.
