  • Condition: As is typical with many of the antique Chinese pieces, where applicable some of the hardware may have been replaced. There is general wear, and may be some shrinkage and age cracks that is typical for a piece this old, especially considering the climate difference. We feel these flaws add to the character of the piece and are preferable to replacement during restoration, Sometimes it is necessary to repair or replace certain components of the furniture, but that is typically done with antique wood. We try to be as clear as possible in the photos attached, however we are limited in the number of photos we can include, so it may not be possible to show every detail.     This beautiful antique Chinese dark elm wardrobe cabinet has 2 flush panel doors that are flush with the front framework of the cabinet. The doors have drop pulls that are mounted on a large round flat back plate, half on each door.  Each side of the back plate has a loop that a keeper pin is inserted into. While we are not certain if the bronze hardware is original, but if not it is an older and heavier replacement than what has typically been used.
    Inside this antique Chinese wardrobe cabinet are a pair of hanging drawers with a shelf above. There is another shelf near the bottom of the cabinet.
    Below the antique wedding cabinet doors is a wide flat apron with an unusual curving bottom edge. Along the edge is a small beaded detail. Inside the curves are detailed pierced carvings. The larger carvings on each side are of dragons. We are uncertain of the smaller center carving although it appears to be a raindrop. This makes sense because In Chinese symbolism rain was very important and life giving, and the dragons were the controllers of rain. Regardless, the carvings can stimulate some interesting conversation and add just the right touch to the simple lines of this antique elm cabinet.
    The finish is a dark brown lacquer.
