Very scarce book of early African American hymns described as "a collection of the most popular Ethiopian Melodies" published by J.A. White, "Sam Lucas," James Bland, Dan Lewis, "Henry Bloodgood", etc. There are 42 hymns in all, titles such as "All de Darkies Gitting Up," "Close dem Windows," and "Dem Silver Slippers."
Words with piano accompaniment are still quite clear throughout. This was the high-end version of this collection, selling for .25 with the board cover. It sold for .00 with a paper cover in 1881.
