Description
1903 American Brilliant Period Cut Glass Bowl w Gorham Sterling Silver RimPresented is a lovely antique American Brilliant Period cut glass and sterling
silver centerpiece or fruit bowl, dated 1903. The silver rim of the bowl was
made by Gorham, while the cut glass portion was likely done by Hawkes as they
often worked with Gorham, though it could have been one of a number of other
renowned ABP glass makers as well such as Libby, Tuthill, Pairpoint, etc. The
quality of the glass cutting work on the bowl is fantastic, with intricately
detailed hobstars and fields of fine diamond-points and fan shapes, all catching
the light to dazzling effect. The silver rim is beautifully hand chased with
classical scroll designs which are likewise detailed and well done.
The silver is stamped with the maker's mark for Gorham as well as sterling, a
product number of D1062M, and a yearmark in the shape of a pitcher for 1903.
This piece is in great overall condition. There are a few very minor chips
here and there primarily to the underside, which we point out the worst of in
the seventh photo. The silver rim is in great shape and securely mounted, with
no splits, no monograms, and no removals.
The bowl measures about 9 inches in diameter and stands about 4 1/2 inches
tall at the rim.
